The core objective of Rummy 500 is straightforward: accumulate points by forming sets and sequences (referred to as runs) and displaying them on the table. The game unfolds over several rounds until a player reaches a total of 500 points.

Rummy 500 utilizes a standard 52-card deck, including one joker. Players receive either 13 cards in a two-player game or seven cards in three to four-player matches. Each turn commences with a player drawing a card from either the stockpile or the discard pile, with specific rules governing the use of the discard pile.

The essence of gameplay lies in forming melds—sets of cards with the same rank or sequences of consecutive cards in the same suit. The joker serves as a wild card, enhancing strategic options. Points are awarded based on the melded cards' values: numbered cards (2-10) score their face value, royal cards (J, Q, K) are worth 10 points each, aces fetch 15 points, and jokers carry the value of the card they represent in melds.

A round concludes when a player has no remaining cards. The scoring process includes tallying points from melds while deducting the value of unmelded cards still held by players. As multiple rounds progress, players accumulate their scores until one reaches or exceeds the coveted 500-point threshold. In cases where multiple players achieve this score simultaneously, the highest score among them determines the winner.
